What drain jetting is
Drain jetting uses high-pressure water, fed down the pipe through a hose, to break up a blockage and wash it away. Because the water also scours the inside of the pipe, it cleans the walls rather than just opening a channel through the middle.
That makes it a good choice when a drain has been blocked before, when a blockage is hard to shift, or when build-up inside the pipe is narrowing the flow. It can be used on its own, or alongside other unblocking methods.
We carry jetting equipment, so it is available as part of our 24/7 emergency response as well as for planned work, for domestic and commercial customers.
When jetting is worth considering
If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting it looked at before it gets worse.
- A drain that blocks repeatedly
- Water that drains slowly even after a basic clear
- Smells that return after cleaning
- Gurgling in sinks or toilets
- Build-up suspected inside a kitchen or yard drain
- A blockage that has resisted rods or plunging
What jetting is used to clear
- Grease and fat build-up. Coats the inside of kitchen and yard drains and narrows them over time.
- Scale and sediment. Deposits that gradually collect on pipe walls and restrict flow.
- Silt and debris. Settles in the bottom of pipes and gullies, especially where flow is slow.
- Roots. Fine roots entering a pipe can catch debris and build into a stubborn blockage.
- Compacted blockages. Material that has packed down firmly and will not move with basic tools.
What happens on a visit
We look at the drain and decide whether jetting is the right method. If it is, a hose with a specially shaped nozzle is fed into the pipe, and high-pressure water breaks up the blockage and washes it through.
Afterwards we check that the drain runs freely and tell you what came out. If the pipe looks damaged, or the blockage keeps returning, we may suggest a CCTV drain survey so the cause can be found.
How we approach a jetting job
We find where the problem is, choose the method that suits it, and use jetting where it will do the most good. Afterwards we tell you what we found and, if the drain looks like it needs more investigation, we may suggest a CCTV drain survey to look inside the pipe.
Domestic and commercial properties
At home
Householders usually call about a kitchen drain that keeps slowing down, an outside drain that blocks, or a blockage that basic tools could not shift.
For businesses
Commercial kitchens and larger premises can build up heavy deposits in their drains. Jetting is a practical way of cleaning the whole length of the run, not just clearing the blockage.
How to keep drains cleaner for longer
A few small habits make a real difference.
- Keep fat, oil and grease out of the sink
- Scrape plates into the bin before washing up
- Use drain strainers and empty them regularly
- Keep gullies and yard drains free of leaves and silt
- Deal with slow draining early rather than waiting for a blockage
When to call us
Call if a drain keeps blocking, if a standard clear has not worked, or if water is draining slowly again soon after being cleared. For an emergency, call 07301 977507 at any hour; we work seven days a week. If you are unsure whether jetting is what you need, describe the problem and we will recommend the right approach.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between unblocking and jetting?
Unblocking restores flow. Jetting uses high-pressure water to break up stubborn blockages and clean the inside of the pipe, which can help stop them returning.
Can jetting be done in an emergency?
Yes. Jetting equipment is part of our kit, and we offer a 24/7 emergency response.
Do you jet drains at commercial properties?
Yes. We work on both domestic and commercial properties.
Will you check why the drain blocked?
We aim to. If the cause is not obvious, we can suggest a CCTV drain survey so you can see what is happening inside the pipe.
